The larks early warning,
Proclaims the bright morning,
The blithe sons of labor
For harvest prepare;
From sleep lightly springing,
The song of joy singing,
His part with his neighbor,
Each hastens to bear:
The prospect is cheering,
With plenty appearing,
With friendship endearing
The labor they share:
The cup of pure pleasure,
They fill in full measure,
For earth’s richest treasure
Contentment is there
The larks early warning,
Proclaims the bright morning,
The blithe sons of labor
For harvest prepare;
Behold they’re now heaping,
The loaded cart creeping,
Aloft stands one proudly
Arranging the sheaves;
And now homeward bringing,
The harvest home singing,
Each voice proclaims loudly
The joy he receives:
With ev’ning advancing,
With singing and dancing,
Their pleasure enhancing
Makes perfect their bliss:
Thus friendship excited,
By virtues united,
Attracts us delighted
To scenes such as this.
